Overview
Apple Montessori Summer camps have been loved by children aged 2 to 12 for nearly 40 years!! The beautiful facilities and unique swimming pools have been designed to help children develop skills in swimming, athletics, arts and crafts, science and nature, music, dance, cooking and technology. Apple’s year round, experienced staff fosters your child’s sense of security and routine as they dive into new and exciting camp activities! Our youngest campers continue to build new friendships while many of our Jr. campers return to Apple each summer to reunite with old friends and make new ones. Many of our counselors used to be Apple campers themselves! now that is what we call a "Lifer!" Apple’s camp experiences are truly what childhood memories are made of!!
Aquatics Program
Daily Swimming Lessons
The fundamental teachings and philosophies of Apple Montessori schools are embraced in our unique camp aquatics program. Our daily lessons are designed to build upon each child’s individual skills and abilities, while promoting safety and fun! Apple’s Red Cross certified lifeguards and aquatics instructor use a Red Cross Learn to Swim Program in combination with Apple’s unique approach to fostering each child’s swimming abilities and pace. Our curriculum covers six levels of swimming from Level One, Acclimation to the Water for our youngest campers to Level Six, Advanced Aquatic Skills and Stroke Proficiency. Games and positive reinforcements are an integral part of our curriculum. Campers are recognized for their accomplishments throughout the summer with awards and certificates. Parents are kept informed with weekly written updates and, ultimately, a Red Cross report certificate.
Pool Design
Apple’s state of the art facilities include several uniquely designed swimming pools. Our heated pools include large shallow ends which promote a sense of security for our youngest students as they develop their swimming skills, while deeper ends foster stroke development and endurance.
Free Swim and Pool Games
Daily and weekly free swim time is offered to our older campers aged four years to twelve years of age. The children can try out their newly acquired skills while playing pools games and activities all under the supervision of our lifeguards and camp counselors.
Arts and Crafts
Projects are designed for each individual age group to challenge the imagination! The children are introduced to a new project each day. They are able to explore materials and techniques while practicing their skills in cutting, painting and creating. Our oldest campers enjoy making projects they can use like fabric painted tote bags or sun visors! There is something for the artist in everyone at Apple!
Cooking
The science of cooking is fascinating to all children. They love to see their cupcakes double in size as they bake in the oven, or watch as Jell-O turns from a liquid into a giggly solid. Most of all they love to get into the kitchen and cook like real chefs! Look out Emeril and Rachel, we have some budding chefs of our own in Apple’s kitchen! Twice a week your child will create his or her own food treats to take home for you to taste! Don’t say we didn’t warn you! Enjoy! (We will adapt the recipes for children with food allergies.)
Science and Nature
The children will observe nature at its best as they explore our beautifully manicured grounds. They may plant and tend their own gardens or learn about the importance of recycling as they make paper from scratch. The mind of a curious child is like a sponge, and we encourage our campers each week with unique, hands- on, activities and lab experiments.
Music and Dance
Children have an inborn ability to sing and move to music! Through theme based lesson plans our campers will learn new songs, stories and movements as they develop their listening skills and love of music! They will experience every genre from classical to pop. They may even create instruments to play in their own marching band. Our older campers especially love to learn new dances. Some past favorites are the Twist, Bunny Hop, Limbo, Macarena, and,of course, the Chicken Dance!
Fastrackids 
This cutting-edge, innovative program puts technology to work for your child. It enhances your child’s knowledge with the use of CD ROM based lesson plans delivered via the Fastrack learning station. The children will interact with the equipment including a Smart Board. They will follow up with a hands on activity that relates to the lesson and will develop their critical thinking as well as public speaking skills.
Organized Sports and Games
Many of Apple’s state of the art facilities offer a regulation size gymnasium, a multi-sport playing field and a sports court. Counselors promote fitness and movement as they introduce the campers to daily games and activities.
The children develop large and small motor skills as they run, hop, skip and jump. The fun continues as they develop spatial awareness and balance through cooperative games like Kickball and obstacle course relay races. The older campers enjoy practicing their throwing, catching, and dribbling abilities as they develop good sportsmanship skills. Bike Day is a favorite as the campers bring bikes, trikes, and even big wheels to ride at camp!
Outdoor Playground Play
Apple’s camp playgrounds offer age appropriate equipment for children to climb, swing, and slide on. The equipment is designed to enhance each child’s individual skills and ability while promoting free play and socialization. Many of the playgrounds have synthetic grass play surfaces with underlying shock-absorbing pads for safety.
Field Trips
All children who attend camp full day and are 4 years old and older may attend scheduled field trips throughout the summer. Some of our past favorites are mini-golf, movie matinee, and ice skating to name only a few.
House Events and Theme Weeks
An In House Event is when the “field trip” comes to Apple! All ages, 2 thru 12, may participate in these events! We have been visited by a petting zoo which includes a pony ride, the Reptile Man who brings outrageous reptiles and of course, a wacky magician. Some of our annual favorites are the carnival rides and slides, and the snow cone making machine, and cotton candy days! Our Theme Weeks promote camp spirit and participation as campers wear their favorite sports t-shirt to camp or their pajamas! An annual counselor and camper favorite is, "wear your Halloween costume day"!! Campers look forward to our unique theme weeks every summer! (Our camp calendars and email reminders help busy parents stay organized!)
Superkids
Much research has been done regarding "summer learning loss". Studies have shown that "nearly all children lose about three months of math computation skills over the summer." (Cooper,1996) Reading skills can also be affected, as well as listening skills and following directions. However, the same research has also shown that doing at least twenty minutes of brain engaging work every day can minimize that learning loss. This optional one hour and twenty minute Superkids session three times a week can help your child from suffering the "summer slump". In Superkids, the children work with the Montessori materials and work on reading, writing, and or math. This curriculum can be individualized to the needs of your child. Applications are available at your school location.
Safety and Security System
The safety and security of your child is always Apple’s first priority! Many of our facilities are surrounded with perimeter fencing, and our doors have been equipped with a security key pad for access.
In-House Lunch Program
We offer an optional lunch program. An outside catering company delivers hot or cold lunch to each facility on a daily basis. Those who are interested may register in advance on line.
Schedules
All Apple Montessori Camps are open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm for children aged 2 years to 12 years old. Infant and Toddler programs are also offered at several locations. (See our programs) Half day and Full day sessions are offered as well as before and after camp childcare.
- Half Day Session -- 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Full Day Session -- 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Before and After Care -- 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. or 3:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
